2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals: Boat-By-Boat Preview


After winning four medals at the 2024 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Genoa, Italy, the United States will send boats in ten categories to the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, taking place from November 6 to 9 in Antalya, Turkey.

The U.S. will have entries in the men’s solo, women’s solo, junior men’s solo, junior women’s solo, junior men’s double sculls, junior women’s double sculls, mixed double sculls, junior mixed double sculls, mixed quadruple sculls with coxswain, and PR3 mixed double sculls events.

The American lineup includes seven returning athletes and nine newcomers. Among them are Christine Cavallo, who won bronze in the women’s solo in 2023, and Annelise Hahl, who captured gold in both the U19 solo and double in 2024 and will make her debut in the mixed quadruple sculls with coxswain. Chris Bak, the reigning men’s solo world champion, will also compete in the mixed double sculls with Sera Busse, who raced at the 2025 World Championships in the quadruple sculls.

Ronan Maher returns to compete in the U19 men’s solo and will also row in the U19 mixed double sculls with newcomer Ophelia Weiss, who will make her debut in the U19 women’s solo. Leland Angel and Sai Anish Maheshwaram will race in the U19 men’s double sculls, marking their first appearance on a U.S. beach sprint national team. Cate Cole and Mary Bain are also first-time national team members and will race the U19 women’s double.

The mixed quadruple sculls with coxswain features a veteran lineup with four previous beach sprint medalists: Coral Kasden, Malachi Anderson, Annelise Hahl, and Kory Rogers. Audrey Boersen will make her first Beach Sprint Finals appearance after racing the lightweight women’s single sculls at the 2024 World Rowing Championships.

This year’s World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals will feature a record 342 athletes representing 55 nations.

Open Women’s Solo (CW1x)

Christine Cavallo (Windermere, Fla./Stanford University/Next Level Rowing) returns to the women’s solo after earning bronze in 2023. A ten-time national team member across U19, U23, senior, and beach sprint categories, Cavallo is one of 33 athletes entered. The field includes defending champion Magdalena Lobnig (Austria), Olympic champion Emma Twigg (New Zealand), Laura McKenzie (Great Britain), Teresa Diaz Moreno (Spain), and Olympian Anna Prakaten(Uzbekistan).

Open Men’s Solo (CM1x)

Christopher Bak (Cincinnati, Ohio/University of Cincinnati/Next Level Rowing) returns to defend his world title. Bak previously won the men’s solo in 2022 and 2024 and also captured gold in the mixed quadruple sculls in 2023. His competition includes Olympic champion Spencer Turrin (Australia), European champion James Cox (Great Britain), and 2021 world champion Giovanni Ficarra (Italy).

Junior Women’s Solo (CJW1x)

Ophelia Weiss (Foxboro, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon/Community Rowing, Inc.) makes her international debut after winning the inaugural U.S. national title in the event at the 2025 USRowing Youth Beach Sprint National Championships. The U.S. won this event in 2024 with Annelise Hahl. Weiss will face European champion Maria Lanciano (Italy) and bronze medalist Marlene Kuehr (Austria) among a 31-boat field.

Junior Men’s Solo (CJM1x)

Ronan Maher (Bellingham, Wash./Next Level Rowing) returns for his second national team appearance after winning the 2025 USRowing Youth Beach Sprint National Championships. He is one of 35 entries—nine more than last year. Italy’s Lucio Fugazzotto, the 2023 champion and 2024 bronze medalist, returns seeking another podium finish.

Open Mixed Double Sculls (CMix2x)

In addition to racing in the men’s solo, Chris Bak will partner with Sera Busse (Oakland, Calif./Tufts University/Craftsbury Green Racing Project) in the mixed double sculls. Busse competed at the 2025 World Rowing Championships, finishing 10th in the women’s quadruple sculls. Thirty-three boats are entered in the event. Lithuania’s Dominykas Jancionis and Martyna Kazlauskaite, the reigning world champions, return to defend their title.

Junior Men’s Double Sculls (CJM2x)

Leland Angel (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton High School/Great Miami Rowing Center/Next Level Rowing) and Sai Anish Maheshwaram (Mason, Ohio/Mason High School/Great Miami Rowing Center/Next Level Rowing) will make their national team debut in beach sprints in Antalya. They won bronze in this event at the 2025 USRowing Youth Beach Sprint National Championships. Spain won this event last year, and 2024 champion Marco Liarte returns with new partner Anton Ivanov to chase another gold. Nine crews are entered.

Junior Women’s Double Sculls (CJW2x)

Cate Cole (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead High School/Cambridge Boat Club) and Mary Bain (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg High School/Indianapolis Rowing Center/Next Level Rowing) will make their first international appearance for the U.S. Bain won bronze at the 2025 USRowing Youth Beach Sprint National Championships with Ophelia Weiss in this event. The defending champions are Americans Annelise Hahl and Annalie Duncomb, who won gold in 2024. This year’s event features nine boats.

Junior Mixed Double Sculls (CJMix2x)

Ronan Maher and Ophelia Weiss will team up in the junior mixed double sculls. Thirty-one crews are entered in this year’s field. Great Britain, the 2024 champions, return with a new lineup.

Inclusion Mixed Double Sculls (InMix2x)

Philip Hoyle (Springfield, Va./University of Washington/Potomac Boat Club/Occoquan Boat Club) and Amy Pietrafitta (Mansfield, Mass./Institute of Art, Design and Technology/Potomac Boat Club/Occoquan Boat Club) will make their beach sprint national team debut. Hoyle previously competed on the U19 national team. This is the first official running of the inclusion mixed double sculls after debuting as an exhibition event last year, when the U.S. earned silver. Six boats are entered, with Great Britain’s 2024 winners returning.

Open Mixed Quadruple Sculls with Coxswain (CMix4x)

The U.S. has a strong history in the event, winning gold in 2023 and bronze in the two previous years. This year’s crew features an experienced lineup with four returning medalists and one rower with senior national team experience.

Coxswain Coral Kasden (San Diego, Calif./University of California, Santa Barbara/NYAC/Penn AC/Next Level Rowing) returns from last year’s crew. Stroke Malachi Anderson (Hamilton, Ohio/Sinclair Community College/Next Level Rowing), the 2023 U19 men’s solo silver medalist, joins Annelise Hahl (Cary, N.C./University of Washington), the 2024 U19 solo and double champion. They are joined by five-time beach sprint national team member Kory Rogers  (The Woodlands, Texas/University of Texas) and Audrey Boersen (West Olive, Mich./Grand Valley State University/ARION), who raced the lightweight single sculls at the 2024 World Rowing Championships.

Great Britain is the reigning world champion and returns two members from their 2024 crew.
