Forty-One National Titles Awarded Sunday at the 2024 USRowing Youth National Championships
National titles in 41 boat classes were up for grabs on Sunday at the 2024 USRowing Youth National Championships. Presented by Broadridge Financial Solutions Inc., this year's youth nationals is the largest ever with 854 boats from 225 clubs across the country bringing in just over 4,000 athletes to Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
Brophy College Preparatory Crew's Ian O'Riley won the men's youth single sculls, winning the final by 5.80 seconds over Oak Neck's Henry Davison. While O'Riley pulled away over the final 500 meters, the race was tight between Davison and O'Riley at the 1000 meter mark. O'Riley, last year's third place finisher, crossed the line in a 7:14.04 to earn the gold medal, with Davison taking second in a 7:19.84. Community Rowing's Simeon John finished third in a 7:25.15.
After finishing third place last year, Triangle Rowing's Annelise Hahl brought home the gold medal in the women' youth single sculls, winning by more than two seconds. Hahl took an early lead through the halfway mark. Waterford Crew's Anna Holtey closed the gap in the last 500 meters, but was unable to catch Hahl. Hahl, who represented the U.S. at the 2023 Under 19 World Championships and the 2023 Beach Sprints Finals, crossed the line in a 8:02.79, with Holtey finishing second in 8:05.22. Newport Rowing Club's Grace Moore finished third with a time of 8:14.91.
RowAmerica Rye dominated the eights categories on both the men's and women's side. On the women's side, RowAmerica Rye won the varsity eight and placed first and second in the second varsity eight. This was the first win for the RowAmerica Rye women's eight. The men's team defended their national title in the varsity eight and placed second in the second varsity eight.
RowAmerica Rye took home the gold medal in the men's youth eight, besting St. Joseph's Preparatory by 1.81 seconds. The race was neck and neck at the halfway mark with RowAmerica Rye only having a few seats ahead of St. Joseph's. The fight for second through fifth came down to tenths of a second with only 1.29 seconds separating all four crews. St. Joseph's took second, beating out Oakland Strokes by only .34 seconds. RowAmerica Rye clocked a 5:52.21, with St. Joseph's finishing in a 5:54.02. Oakland Strokes took third in a 5:54.36.
RowAmerica Rye won the women's youth eight final by 1.58 seconds over Newport Aquatic Center. RowAmerica Rye took the early lead, with Newport Aquatic Center closing the margin in the second half. Newport finished second in a 6:37.45, with Marin winning the bronze in a 6:37.95.
In the men's youth pair event, Canisius High School took gold and silver. Liam Feeney and Isaiah Aljuwani battled down the course with Montclair High School until the Montclair pair flipped in the last 200 meters. Feeney and Aljuwani took the win in a time of 7:00.49. Canisius High School's B crew of Max Burget and James Dodman earned the silver medal by 1.84 seconds over First Coast Rowing Club's Jack Walker and Samuel Tise.
In the quadruple sculls events, Los Gatos won three out of four events on the men's and women's side and placed second in the women's youth quadruple sculls. Los Gatos' men's youth quadruple sculls battled down the course with Whitemarsh Boat Club to win the event by 1.78 seconds. Los Gatos and Whitemarsh were even at the halfway mark before Los Gatos moved ahead to finish in a time of 6:13.10. Whitemarsh finished second in a 6:14.88, with Texas Rowing Center taking third in a 6:17.46.
In the women's youth quadruple sculls, Redwood Scullers dominated the course from start to finish, crossing the line in 7:04.91 over two seconds ahead of silver medalists, Los Gatos. Oregon Rowing Unlimited took bronze.
The women's youth four with coxswain was dominated from start to finish by St. Andrew Rowing Club. The crew from Georgia had open water at the 1,000 meter mark and crossed the finish line in 7:20.71 nearly seven seconds ahead of second place, Greenwich Crew. Nereid Boat Club took third.
Rowing with a new partner this year, Atlanta Junior Rowing Association's Max Allemeier repeated as champion of the men's youth inclusive double sculls for the third year in a row. Allemeier and Edward Paganucci won the race in a 7:47.11, finishing more than seven seconds ahead of Texas Rowing Center's Jeffrey Cone and Silas Tamulonis. Orlando City Boat Club's Payton Cramer and Nathan Rodriguez won bronze. Max Allemeier will be an alternate for this year's Paralympic Games. This was the largest inclusive Para event at Youth Nationals since its introduction.
Community Rowing's Mariia Prodan easily won the women's under 17 single sculls, clocking a 8:19.05 to take home the gold by over eleven seconds. First Coast Rowing Club's Avisa Rezaei took silver in an 8:30.57, with Episcopal Collegiate School's Alice McCormick placing third.
Brunswick School Boat Club's George Kapp claimed victory in the men's under 17 single sculls, defeating Mohawk Homeschool Rowing Association Christian Penny by over seven seconds. Kapp took the early lead on the field and finished in a time of 7:31.42. Penny clocked a 7:38:46, with Greater Houston Rowing Club's Porter Collins placing third in a 7:41.23.

Located in Sarasota, Fla., Nathan Benderson Park is a unique 600-acre community park that includes North America's premier 2,000-meter sprint rowing course and a regatta center. It previously hosted youth nationals in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
