USRowing Presents a Weekend of Learning
USRowing presents a weekend of learning with the Chasing Excellence Coaching Conference and the USRowing Coxswain Conference on January 11 and 12. Both days will be virtual and all attendees will have access to the live conference and the recorded sessions after the conference. This weekend of learning will bring together rowing coaches, athletes, and industry professionals from around the world to share insights, explore innovations, and collaborate on strategies to advance the sport of rowing.
The Chasing Excellence Conference returns to help junior coaches and club administrators better support their athletes and junior programs. Al Morrow will be the keynote speaker; he is an Olympian and the former head coach of the Canadian Women’s National Rowing Team. He coached at nine Olympic Games and under his leadership, Canadian rowers won a combined 15 World Championships and eight Olympic medals. Morrow will kick off the day at 10 a.m. ET with a session focused on how to define a coaching career and lifelong learning. With an amazing array of speakers, the conference will cover 30 topics that range Leadership and Mental Toughness, to Breathing Strategies, to Coaching-Life Balance and Small-Boat Training, to high-level sculling. - Dr. Stephen Seiler - "Discussions about Power-Duration Curves and the underlying physiology" A talk anticipating the 2028 LA Olympics and what potential changes we might be looking at for training programs.
- Dr. Valery Kleshnev - "From Paris 2024 to LA 2028: current and long-term trends in Modern Rowing"
- Robert Sens - "Optimizing long-term athlete Development".
- Al Morrow - “Coaching for Life: A discussion about constantly learning and improving.”
- Mike Purcer ChPC, C.E.T. - "Analyzing Video"
USRowing’s Coxswain Conference will feature two keynote speakers Olympic gold medalists Pete Cippollone and Mary Whipple. Pete Cippollone won gold with the U.S. men’s eight at the 2004 Athens Games. Three-time Olympic medalist Mary Whipple coxed the U.S. women’s eight gold in 2008 and 2012 and silver in 2004. Paris Olympian Nina Castagna and Paralympic silver medalist Emelie Eldracher will also be speaking. The conference will have talks for coxswains and coaches looking to learn new ways to coach a coxswain.
