Racing Wraps Up at USRowing’s 2025 Fall Speed Order

Racing wrapped up Saturday at USRowing’s 2025 Fall Speed Order in West Windsor, N.J., where 112 crews from 32 clubs took to the water. The field featured 40 women’s single sculls, 47 men’s single sculls, 10 men’s pairs, seven women’s pairs, and eight Para entries. One of the largest speed orders to date, the regatta drew a strong mix of senior, Para, and former U23 national team athletes. Due to high winds, the event was condensed into a single day, beginning with a time trial for seeding into finals. The men’s single sculls alone required six finals.

Men’s Single Sculls
NYAC’s Sam Melvin reaffirmed his prowess in the single, winning the event in 7:07.07, more than seven seconds ahead of runner-up Caleb Nollenberger of Craftsbury Green Racing Project. California Boat Club’s Evan Falstrup rounded out the top three. Melvin raced in the men’s double sculls at the 2025 World Rowing Championships, while Falstrup served as an alternate. NYAC’s Eliot Putnam, a 2023 World Championships men’s single sculler, placed fourth. Dartmouth sophomore and reigning U23 Athlete of the Year Cosmo Hondrogen finished fifth at speed orders after his silver medal in the lightweight single at the 2025 U23 World Championships. High school senior and U19 Athlete of the Year Tony Madigan impressed with a second-place finish in the C Final.

Women’s Single Sculls
U.S. Training Center–Boston’s Emily Kallfelz edged Olympic lightweight Michelle Sechser for the win. Kallfelz rowed in the women’s four at the 2024 Olympics, while Sechser, who competed in the lightweight double sculls in Paris, picked up her first world title this September in the lightweight single sculls. Arion’s Savannah Brija and Varsity’s Sophia Vitas took third and fourth, respectively. Vitas raced the women’s double at the 2024 Olympics, and Brija competed in the quad at the 2022 World Championships. Penn AC’s Eva Frohnhofer, a 2023 U23 national team member, finished fifth. Notably, Audrey Boersen jumped back into flat-water racing just days after winning mixed quad with coxswain gold at the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Turkey, claiming fifth in the B Final.

Women’s Pair
Olympians Molly Bruggeman and Regina Salmons dominated for a decisive win, finishing more than four seconds ahead of Mia Levy and Dahlia Levine. Bruggeman and Salmons were members of the U.S. Olympic eight in 2024. Levy, who raced in the eight at this year’s World Championships and won the 2025 NCAA Impact Award, partnered with Levine, her 2023 U23 eight gold-medal teammate. Olympian Charlotte Buck and Megan Lee followed closely behind in third; both competed in the eight at the 2025 World Championships. Olympians Claire Collins and Daisy Mazzio-Manson finished fourth.

Men’s Pair
The University of Washington’s Ryan Martin and Lyle Donovan impressed with a winning time of 6:42.41. The duo helped deliver the U.S.'s first-ever U23 men’s four world title this summer. Varsity’s Sam Halbert and Blake Vogel took second, with Olympian Evan Olson and USTC-Sarasota’s Josh Diggons placing third. Olson earned Olympic bronze in the 2024 eight, while Vogel, Halbert, and Diggons have all medaled at U23 World Championships.

Para Events
Paralympian Skylar Dahl led the PR3 women’s single, finishing ahead of Vesper’s Eli Margolin. Dahl won silver in the PR3 mixed four with coxswain at the 2024 Paralympics; Margolin competed in the same boat class at this year’s World Championships. Margolin’s teammate Annabelle Miller placed fourth, with Rockland’s Leila Morris third.
In the PR3 men’s single, USTC-Boston’s Alex Flynn, also a member of the 2024 Paralympic crew, won in 8:02.50, followed by Jeffrey Cone. Andrew Mangan took the PR1 men’s single in 10:18.48.
